Time of India reports from Bangalore:
Men from across the city began calling the All-India Men’s Welfare Association for help immediately after its launch on Thursday! Although the association does not have an office yet, the founder-members have opened a helpline. Besides, they organize meetings every Sunday at the Press Club.
Men can discuss their problems with counsellors Vivek Deveshwar and Mithun Kumar. The committee has five active members, apart from Vivek and Mithun, all of whom are software professionals. Vivek said: “Our approach includes counselling, and at the same time not letting men think of themselves as victims and getting into the self-pity mode.” In cases of matrimonial or other family disputes, they offer legal assistance.
A 61-year-old man called the helpline on Thursday saying he has filed a suit for getting maintenance from his son. Another call was from a divorced man who has been rejected visitation rights. He has a 1-year-old son.
Men who have already faced such problems joined the association, and many have volunteered to help. An advocate who has faced and dealt with harassment through matrimonial cases has eagerly supported the cause, offering legal assistance.
The association intends to open two more helplines for those who speak Kannada.
I am happy to know that a website has come into existence to discsuss issues exclusively of men. I am a Sr.Citizen, aged 63, started working as an LIC Agent.
I am happy your organisation is taking up the cause of men. In matrimonial cases in India, men are discriminated against. Divorce cases drag for years, inflicting tremendous agony on not only the parties concerned but also the other family members. India should have the option of ‘no-fault’ divorce (as is prevalent in Australia, USA (all states
except New York) and many more countries. No-fault divorce describes any divorce where the spouse
asking for a divorce does not have to prove that the other spouse did something wrong. To get a
no-fault divorce, one spouse must simply state a reason for the divorce that is recognized by the
state. In most states, it’s enough to declare that the couple cannot get along (this reason goes by
such names as incompatibility, irreconcilable differences, or irremediable breakdown of the
marriage).
This is a humane option as it reduces the mud-slinging between the spouses (which affects their
children) and allows them to move on in life.
I feel your organisation should campaign strongly for introducing no-fault divorce in India.
Its a great beginning for all the mens who till now where thinking are all alone against the Womans who put false cases against men and the Law as well as the media which supports them.
Good after noon Sir,
I have seen your Association on Net & read your views. I appreciate Your views (from the bottom of my heart) & you would be happy to know that I firmly
support You. Infact I am quite pleased to know that there are people who think like me. Otherwise in my locality
whenever
I do these kind of talks or express these kinds of views people don’t take me seriously. Some of them laugh at me.
And I am talking about “MEN” (who laugh at me.)
Infact “MEN” are not ready to believe that they are being taken for granted. In plain language they are unaware of the
fact that they are being EXPLOITED, HARASSED, ANNOYED, HUMBLED & LOOKED DOWN UPON BY
the WOMEN. I won’t explain how as you are already well aware of it.
But the thing is how this big problem can be solved. In blunt words how this huge crisis can be do away with.
Sir,I am glad & I praise men/boys like you who are trying to solve this problem & working for men’s rights.
But There are numerous NGOs & WOMEN
ORGANIZATIONS WORKING FOR WOMEN’S RIGHTS but is there any single one that is working for
us (MEN)??! (Obviously, Barring Your One)
There is National Commission for Women but none for Men!! There is a separate/special Ministry for Women but
what about Men? Now women are saying its their birth-right to have 33% reservation in The Parliament of India.
The crux of the matter is that to a large extent men are themselves responsible for their pathetic state.
Reason-They are not United. Infact they are not even ready to accept that something wrong or unjust is being
done to them. And I think, You would be aware of the fact that there are lakhs of ’gentlemen’ who are working
laboriously, exclusively for women’s rights. It is quite shocking as well as ironical that they are not working for
their own (Male) community. We are very few in number as well as in percentage. We need to work very hard, aggressively & swiftly and for that we ought to
trust the members of our community. It’s not enough to chat on Internet. We must interact by phone/mobile
And if feasible, we should meet on a regular basis in person.
My own Cell Number is 09968235376 and you are most welcome to call me any time between 8am to 11pm.
In the end, I must say that I am really impressed by your effort & I am grateful to you for that.
With Best Wishes
Gaurav Gupta.
